Why Need Braces?| The many benefits of braces

While the social stigma against braces is going away and while they are becoming less overt and invasive, braces are still often assumed to be an added option for more aesthetic than medical purposes, and therefore more as a beauty enhancement than a necessity. While this may be the case for some people, it is important to know if you or your child are in need of braces, to ensure there aren’t oral complications or disfigurements in the future. This blog will discuss some reasons why braces are an important thing to consider for you and your child.

Why Need Braces? | A healthier happier you

Confidence and a great smile: Fact of the matter is that a smile is critically important and central to creating a good first impression. Several studies have vouched that it is one of the first things people notice about us, and we already know that a first impression is often the last. Therefore, the benefits of fixing anomalies in tooth-growth should not be discounted. Young children in particular are often susceptible to lack of confidence in their appearances and consequential bullying in school which can prove troublesome in later life. On the other hand, a positive self-image carries forward to adulthood and leads to future success. Even for adults, self-esteem is vital in professional and social life.

Functionality and health: Straight teeth are a lot more than just aesthetically pleasing. They help an individual effectively bite, chew, and even speak. It is also worth knowing that straight teeth contribute to health too; as they are easier to brush, clean, and floss. They are less likely to cause future cavities and periodontal disease. Gum related issues are of particular concern because over time they can lead to damage of the bone and more serious complications. Proper alignment of teeth and jaws also alleviates unnecessary wear and grinding. A malocclusion or a “cross bite” can lead to problems with the temporomandibular joint and ineffective chewing or digestive issues. In some cases misalignment can also lead to chronic pains. Therefore, a repetitive years long anomaly in health should not be ignored and it’s never too late to fix.

Preventive dental care: Furthermore, misaligned teeth are more injury-prone. Protruding upper teeth are likelier to break during accidents. Moreover, orthodontic correction at an early stage can prevent costlier and more invasive surgeries due to complications from disproportioned jaws and face later in life. The American Dental Association and the American Association of Orthodontists should be checked by the age of 7 and no later than 11 for eligibility. Although only a few orthodontic issues need to be rectified in that age bracket, an early and timely exam allows for better advice and guidance as to when the appropriate age to start treatment would be. That said, it is never too late to get braces if they are needed. Adult braces are becoming more and more common, and with technological advancements that have given us clear braces, lingual braces and invisalign braces, they’re hardly noticeable at all. Therefore, at every age and for everyone, braces should always be a consideration as it is never too late to say no to orthodontic correction.
